nuStream
- Campus-Wide Streaming Service
NUS staff can submit requests to
digitise video tapes, CDs, VCD, LD and DVD to AVI, MPEG1/2, Windows
Media, Real and QT, allowing them to stream the content over the
Internet
nuStream,
initiated by CIT, will now provide a more efficient and effective
multimedia cum streaming solution to the NUS community. At the same
time, nuStream aims to enhance teaching and learning experience
on campus.
To
encourage the use of multimedia in teaching and learning, lecturers
and staff can access the nuStream web portal to submit their request
for media digitisation. nuStream will allow users to transform media
sources, e.g. tapes, CD, VCD, LC, DVC, to a format that can be streamed,
for example, WMT/REAL. Other formats conversions are WMV, QT, REAL,
MPEG1/2, AVI and MP3 for easy archiving purposes.
Lecturers/staff can either request for their media to be stored
in the streaming server to be viewed by students, or for the media
to be returned in external storage, e.g. video tape or CD.
The
main objective of the nuStream is to cater to the increasing demand
of multimedia enabled websites and portals. These include streaming,
digitisation and other future multimedia applications.
More importantly, CIT is in the process of designing a streaming
solution that will enable end-users to create and enhance their
new and existing learning web portals.
The initial phase of the service is mainly targeted for lecturers
and staff involving course related multimedia resources. Subsequently,
the service will be extended to non-academic staff and integrated
with the existing services provided at the CIT’s Multimedia
Development Lab. This will enable CIT to support a wider range of
users on campus.
