Remote Recorded Webcast

This semester selected lectures will be remotely webcasted live. Remotely controlling and recording from a central control room means that CIT's technical officers do not need to be physically present at the LTs to webcast a lecture.

CIT will be using VBrick Systems for this service. The VBrick Encoder, installed at the LT, will transmit 'live' lecture to another encoder at CIT's control room. The control room is also where the technical officer is able to remotely control the camera and monitor transmission quality. Video transmission between the LT and CIT's control room can be set between 1Mbps to 20 Mbps over the NUS IP network. At the same time, the video is fed from a VBrick Decoder onto the encoder PC for webcast to NUSLive.

This is a much more effective process, compared to previously where the technical officer has to be present at the LT to operate the camera and webcast the lectures.

This new development is further expected to increase the frequency and improve scalability of webcast lectures on campus. With the VBrick Systems, the technical officer at the control room is able to webcast more than one lecture simultaneously.

Presently, two LTs on campus will be installed with the VBrick Encoder. CIT hopes to implement this technology campus-wide when the effectiveness and reliability of VBrick Systems has been tried and tested.
