Content Management with IVLE

Content management enable content authors to register their learning objects so that other lecturers can search and incorporate into their own online curriculum

The Content Management tool, newly introduced in version 7.0 of the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE), consists of a registry and a repository of learning objects .

It enables content authors to register their learning objects so that other lecturers can search, discover and incorporate relevant objects into their own online curriculum. Registration of learning objects involves creating a label for the contents. The Content Management tool provides the lecturer a means to identify how their learning objects are re-used by other lecturers.

During the registration of contents with the IVLE tool, lecturers can decide if they would like to upload their contents onto the IVLE learning object repository or simply to provide the URL to the contents residing on another web server.

Reuse of existing content

Learning content repositories are sprouting up around the world as organizations discover that it is advantageous to inventorise their existing contents for discovery and re-use throughout the community. The Universitas 21 Learning Resource Catalogue (U21 LRC) is one such project. The member Universities, which includes NUS, are committed to share learning contents with each other. As such the IVLE Content Management tool may soon be able to search and integrate contents from a global community through the U21 LRC.
