Students feedback on IVLE (their dislikes, suggestions for improvements and other comments):
1. Great work
2. probably there can be a guide on the features of ivle.. like a step by step guide for the students to know exactly what services the ivle provides. cos i noe some of my friends dunno abt the sms service ..
4. Generally, this system has been very beneficial for both students and lecturers. However, certain functions, like downloading of readings, (esp. for those that are limited to only one time downloading per student) have room for improvement. Sometimes the system gets clogged up, and causes us to lose the opportunity of accessing the readings online. On the other hand, the efficiency of the system will require the cooperation of the lecturers, for instance, timely access of lecture notes.
5. Improvements: Perhaps the IVLE team could consider giving a limited amount of webspace to every student to put up his/her personal website. Roughly it could be 10Mb or so. The forums could be further improved and and make it similar to the mainstream forums available on the net.
6. i remembered that during the last exam, i had a lot of problem accessing the past year exam papers with the link provided on IVLE. it doesn't seem to be able to access exam papers that register a different module code in cases when my modules have already changed their module code. this problem is compounded by lib's new website which seemed totally impossible to find any exam papers at all, first time that i encountered this problem in my 3 years here.
8. When searching for modules, it does not tell us why they cannot be found like for exmple if they have changed their module code or that it was offered last year or something.
10. if possible, put the timetable on IVLE, so that we could view my class schedule online
12. good, keep it up!
13. It would be better if mobile IVLE can notify students whenever lecturers upload any lecture notes and reading material.
14. it is a good system. well done
15. Personally, i think we can have better IVLE. More functions..more advanced and bring more convenience to us.
17. well done
18. This sem, things like the forum has always been down especially for those viewing the site from home. even the webcast seemed to have problems all too often. hopfully the problem can be rectified before long as the system is very useful for enhancing the studying in nus
19. There is nothing to improve on. It is good enough. Well done!
20. Your survey is too loaded with trying to rationalise IVLE. It does not attempt to uncover any difficulties, weaknesses of IVLE or a system like it. (Unless of course, if you didn't intend to). For example, a question like number 7 barely scratches the surface. It is not really necessarily to answer at all. Any system would "impact" the experience with NUS. As for enhance, it depends on what the lecturers do doesn't it? IVLE's aesthetic design is hopelessly ugly. Buttons are inconsistent. Although connection speeds seems quite good.
22. IVLE has certainly helped students in preparing and/or catching up with schoolwork. it is very important to have an efficient and easy to use system to help us access the resources.
23. Thank u very much for all the hard work. I'm sure all of us would have a much harder time learning and studying at NUS if not for IVLE.
25. The messenging system is a bit lag
27. It works for me.
29. Should not be shut down during holiday
30. Less red tape for lecturers to put up materials/internet links in the ivle on short notice. Educating/updating the academic staff on the capabilities of the ivle?
32. It was a great system. May be we should also be allow to access our email within the IVLE instead of login to any address
33. good tool to access to all modules
34. IVLE is a great tool. It has helped me a lot during my years in the university so far.
36. Software not cmpatible with certain OS like Windows ME, where e announcement doesn't appear in pop-up-windiw form. Else is quite convenient to use.
40. very nice, efficient and easy to use keep it up.
41. imporve on the instand messaging system because the message does not appear instantly when you message the other party.
42. can improve in the forum portion, to make it more real-time.
44. currently not all courses are linked in IVLE. All lecturers should be encouraged to place notes in IVLE so that access is easier for students.
45. very good system.
47. Strongly agreed to provide and improve the system. It is useful in learning and getting information. The sugggestion (1) Is it possible to set up a place under particular module for group project members' discussion and posting documents The improvement (1) The Vedio put in the IVLE is not in good qaulity in terms of sound, screen size. Is it possible to improve the quality?
50. IVLE forums are getting increasingly overloaded. Whenever I click on the 'Expand All' icon and try to read a whole discussion thread, the forum usually hangs, and even refreshing or logging in again produces the same result. I've learned to get around this by using 'Expand New' to take some of the load off the server, but the problem tends to crop up again when I've been logged on for a little longer. It's frustrating because I really enjoy participating in forum discussions. Sometimes when I try to reply to a thread, I end up having to log off and on several times before I'm able to.
53. sometimes the links to certain multimedia files are down at the critical moment such as i was unable to view my course videos the day before the exam and it was kind of worrying, perhaps there should be a link to report if a particular link or file doesnt work and that the reply would be asap. Thanks
54. The trouble is, not all lecturers use the IVLE, or do so in a standardised manner. This has led to a negating of the convenience of the IVLE as a "one-stop access" point. Perhaps training courses could be conducted and the system standardised for the lecturers, so that students really WILL be able to access all things at the same time.
55. Modules should all have webcasts...
56. It is very conveinient for us to know about all the announcements....
57. the system is great as it is the one stop in getting the lecturer notes and communicate with the lecturer. But not all lecturer have their lecture notes mounted on the site and the communication with the lecturer through forum and chat room was also not being utilise by most lecturers.
58. it is great. should be clearer to navigate though
59. IVLE definitely has its benefits such as we can get our readings from it without having to make a trip to the library to queue up and wait. Perhaps to make it even more useful, lecturers should use the ivle to answer the students' queries in the forum actively. In that way, we can ensure that students and lecturers are in close contact and build good rapport. Basically I think the ivle chat isn't of much use since we don't stay in the ivle all day long.
60. Allow students to change their photos on IVLE through uploading. Allow ALL students to e-mail everyone in the class.
61. i think it should be easier to use and read, especially for the beginners.
62. Essential to the running of such a large institution.
63. More Lecturers should make better use of it .... especially lecturers from Business Ad. is not really using IVLE at all.
64. so far this system has been most useful as it gives me access to school work as long as i have a PC with internet access.
65. To allow access of lecture notes of bookmarked modules because there are modules that i have bookmarked but cant access the lecture notes.
67. No comments. Its already quite useful to us generally.
68. Pretty practical and useful. Although it would be good to add some fancy features like sms notices etc, I think the system should be kept to a practical minimum so that it would not become too confusing. Keep it up.
69. IVLE make it more convenient for us, the part-time student to find out things abt our courses.
70. make various applications more accessible especially the videos if required for certain modules i find it extremely tedious and difficult accessing videos uploaded on ivle
71. It's a good system.
73. It good for those people that miss class often, still can follow the progree through the lessen clip.
76. I think it's useful and convenient for students to manage their modules and be updated on any immediate annoucements made..
78. Not many lecturers are making full use of the forum, this may be improved. Sometimes from home I cannot access the latest announcements put up on IVLE, or the newest posted stuff ... don't know if there are similar complaints or is this a technical fault of my own CPU?
79. it is quite good
80. IVLE has been very useful to me and I rely extensively on it during the school term.Overall, I am very satisfied with the layout and workings of the IVLE.
81. I think other than the problem of missing out the modules given to students that had happened once, the IVLE system is a rather convenient and important tool for students.
82. there is no navigation to such things like Grade book thus when teacher told us to take a look at our grade in Grade book, we do not know where to go to
83. Could include more student related tools/ applications such as calculator, planners etc...
85. IVLE is great, i love it.
86. i like it. good effort; somemore using asp and not jsp. =)
87. Its perfectly fine.
89. change the look. more appealing colours... and more professional look
92. update the module courses soon after bidding. sometimes we still get the module for the previous semester
93. IVLE should continue...it is certainly very helpful...
95. ensure all lecturers make use of it.
96. I think IVLE is efficient thus far. Though it would be good if more multimedia for course viewing could be available to watch outside campus using this system.
97. There is no alert for incoming message whenever people reply through the active messanging.
101. Please. Update your forum design. It's terrible. Forums such as vbulletin and phpbb allow users to see all the posts in a thread at one go, while ivle's forum does not. By expanding and then clicking one by one, the congruence of a discussion is lost. Also, ivle does not allow the viewing of all those previous posts in a thread while making a reply.
102. IVLE has been equipped with a lot of functions, such as chat room, personal organiser and so on.. but seem to me, these functions are hardly utilised by me and my friends. I think most students are not aware and will not bother these uses, as they have better alternatives.
103. Not all the modules in SDE are supported by IVLE. Some lecturers just set up a pseudo IVLE with dead links to assessments, forums. IVLE should be updated on a regular basis to operate as a efficient and functional functional medium of communication and information dissemination.
104. the alert email to our nus mailbox whenever there is a file being uploaded can be made optional instead.
105. All lecturers should be encouraged to use IVLE...most lecturers in pharmacy do not use it well...some do not even create a site for their module...
107. Regarding the media resource, I cannot access the media at home even though I have met the criteria of using cable. Perhaps this area can be further enhanced. Thank you.
108. satisfied
109. I thought that all modules should have the basic functions on ivle such as: forums, group roster(if any, class roster alone is not enough), but some modules that I used to take is useless with ivle. The course website may have the basic necessaries such as the lec notes and announcement but ivle is still the best. Still, there should be forums and lesson plans, ...for that particular modules on ivle.
110. on the whole, it's useful.
111. It is a very good system for me on my academic works.
112. I like the Webcast..think more lectures should be placed on webcast. For most of my modules the lecturers dun use the IVLE at all, maybe they should be given training on how to use and utilise it. The forums are also very useful
113. It is great.
114. Help page can be improved.
115. the layout look ugly
116. An interactive user tutorial on how to use ivle maybe created, or be placed in a more obvious place if it has been one there.
117. Can include some graphics to improve the visual effects of IVLE.
118. The part for sending messages to friends should be designed in a way where it is like ICQ or MSN Chat; messages coming in will pop up automatically so that people actually know that their friends actually send their a message without much time delay.
119. I feel that IVLE has been an extremely useful and easy to use for us students.
121. the sms alert for IVLE announcement is inconsistent. it appears to work only at certain times for certain modules. it would be good to improve on its reliability.
122. everything's fine.
125. active messaging does not work
126. I think all lecturers need to be aware that we do use the ivle. I also noticed that we have never used the project evaluation thingee...
127. All announcements can be notified through SMS instead of a selection of them only.
128. i like ivle.
129. sometimes too much logging in is required, for example using ivle to retrieve past year exam paper. the limit for uploading file is too little as often projects to be shared among classmates exceed the limit
131. the chat function is not very well developed. the user does not get an alert when his fren msg him.
132. it is very desirable as all the courses I take in every current semester is listed and i can access all the relevant materials in the same website. However, it would be best if the modules i have taken are retained somewhere on ivle so that i can access the materials again when needed.
133. suggestion: The school first need to request all of the professors and lecturers to use IVLE, once they put the notes on IVLE, the students will access and download from it.
134. its a good idea
137. some technical problems such as inability to load websites from the pg.. for example the SARS website on certian browsers.
138. It ROCKS!!
139. for a facilitator service, i believe it is very neatly done.
140. Although the current IVLE is easy to navigate, however the layout of the website is boring and dull. I think it would greatly interest us and enhance our participation in IVLE if the layout could be modified to one that is more interesting or engaging through the use of more vibrant colors or the incorparation of interactive web designs like flash etc. Also, features such as online chat room should be fully utilized since some modules already have this feature under their module code. The same goes for other IVLE tools that are being under-utilized. Besides, the feature 'Active Messaging' needs some improvement because interacting with friends through this feature is troublesome in that the other party's message will not automatically appear on your screen after he/she sent the message across. You can only get to see the message when you click on the 'refresh' button. Hence if you're unsure whether the other party had sent another new message, you'd have to click on the 'refresh' button continuously...
144. There such be a course teaching some of the lecturers to use IVLE as I feel that a lot of lecturers have not optimise IVLE's usage. Some only use it to deposit their notes but not as a means of communication. If only the lecturers can use it like Dr. Seow TK as he makes full use of IVLE for my LSM 1401 module. Highly commendable!
145. It is a great system.
146. Great system. Love it to bits. Hope the good work can be continued. A better forum might be better. Something like those commercial ones via php?
148. Those items not available for the students eg past years materials are better to be removed or grey off to avoid confusion. Period of access should be indicated as well.
149. I believe that all well design systems requires people who are able and willing to impelement them. I suppose you can educate more professors or tutors in using of the functions in ivle.
150. like-online tests are useful especially abefore exam its a good form of revision. it is very useful to contact lecturers and tutors and it seems to be the besy way for lecturers to upload the lect notes and it is easy to access.
151. not all of the modules make full use of the ivle. the administrator can encourage lecturers to make use of ivle to post teaching materials. i'm sure a lot of students like me do not use the forum regularly. this can be improved too.
152. it is convenient as it gives access to all the courses.
153. good
155. Have a "Download All" function to download materials related to the entire course (includes all sub-folders). Lecturers must pur their course materials in IVLE for IVLE to work.
157. i think it is a great way to organise the course work it definitely simplify the ways information is pass around without much confusion well done and keep up the good work!
158. for some module, i think it will be better for the lecturer to answer to the question in the forum rather than setting it up and leave it there. i think they are some lecturer who do that. If they dont have the itention to answer any question online, they might as well dont creagte the forum. With the accurate answer from lecturer, students wont have to guess which is the right asnwers, sicne different students give different answer and some may be right or some may be wrong ( done on purpose)
159. active messaging is not very efficient in the sense that we have to keep refreshing the page before we can see our friend's message.
160. So far I think the IVLE is very efficient, no comments at the moment.
161. Generally, I enjoyed IVLE as a learning experience in my NUS days, in particular the forum section in which students can exchange ideas and learn from the rest. However, participation rate at undergraduate level in those courses I took in Law Faculty appeared to be very low. Effort must be made to promote the importance of IVLE as a platform to share information with the fellow students, lest it will defeat the purpose of University education.
162. nothing to comment in particular. Except maybe there's some inconsistency in notifying students about uploaded work on IVLE and some announcements through email. Because I mainly access IVLE to dowload notes and assignments, I may not be accessing it regularly enough to catch announcements through IVLE. In this case, some announcements are posted both through email and IVLE, while some available only when one goes through IVLE. It would be good if there's a consistency in that ALL announcements are posted both through IVLE and email.
163. make sure that all lecturers are adequately skilled in using it first, and that they WILL use it. so that "one-stop access" will really mean what it means. course package on sale is preferred to e-reserves because it is too time-consumning to download and print one by one, not to forget we can only download once so if we wana use the laser photocopier in school, after we download once and theres problem, we cant access the same document again from home. one of the options for question 8 is "i can access my course notes and assignments immediately", but many lecturers still post their notes after (sometimes even one week after!) the lecture. this hardly benefit students. i know different lecturers have different styles, but uploading it before hand will give students the freedom instead whether to print notes before or after the lecture to suit their learning style. therefore student;s preference to do so or not (ie, students' learning style) should be more important than the lecturer's. all in all IVLE is still useful because lecturers can post notes and announcements to keep student up to date.
164. IVLE ROX..use it all the time..MIT Just introduced it..!
166. The UI has to be improved to be more user friendly, there are alot of login if I wish to access elibrary or the exam paper. Try to reduce the logins and keystroke, some of the functions like search in the forum can be further improved and these functions are not very obvious to users.
167. The webcasts are very helpful, will be good if all modules had webcasts.
169. Keep Up The Good Work
171. it is very useful..
172. IVLE is of a great help to me as i can get the information of the courses taken and it is very convenient to use.
173. The IVLE forum enables the students to have FAQ about the course. But the usage of the forum depends on the lecturer encouragement. If the lecturer encourage us to use then the students will make use of it otherwise not much info can be found there.
175. it is good
178. very convenient and easy to get assignments.
179. i think the ivle has really becomes a very essential part of the entire course of the uni study. it is from here that we are able to reach all the information about the courses through ivle with much access. for instance we are able to locate all the lecture notes and assessments, no forgetting the past year exam papers to some of the available modules. etc. but one thing which i hope to see in ivle is the postings of the solutions to the past year exam papers. since not all the solutions to the past years papers could be purchased. thanks...
180. Actually, I think it is really quite a good system that help students in organization and management of modules.
181. The IVLE is a vital tool for us as it helps us to download stuff from the workbin, access all other modules so as to get a rough knowledge of what is expected in those modules. i'm satisfied with the IVLE system. __________________
182. Show more clearly a link to all modules offered in NUS, so that a student can assess the probability of taking the module next semester.
183. 1. The active messaging is not actively used. Most students will juz use msn or yahoo messenger.
184. I hope more profs would be encouraged to use IVLE, especially in physics.
187. Some improvements on webcast..
188. Perhaps getting more lecturers to use the system will be good. I think some lecturers are still a bit wary about the IVLE and thus don't really use it even though it is such a good tool.
190. IVLE is an excellent system where it greatly facilitates the communication between students and lecturers. There is also very easy access to lecture notes etc.
191. can there be an indication on the ivle workspace, as to how many new/unread emails we have in our mailbox. in this way, we will not waste time opening the mailbox when there may not be new/unread emails.
192. It is sometimes harder to access from home.
193. Felt it quite good.
194. Please make the current version of the WEBCAST LECTURES accessable to alternative internet browsers like Mozilla and Opera as i am unable to view them over these browsers.
195. Is it possible to allow us to access other modules instead of being restricted to modules taken by a student. This might help him/ her to do research or pool resources from other modules.
197. This is a very good system, it would be better to attach a "help" icon that is more user friendly. Thank you for your attention and have a nice day!
198. I think that the concept is a very good idea, though more participation bby certain lecturers woud be better. =)
199. Sometimes it's a bit slow,especially when there's a msg.
200. i want to get more chances to communicate with my lecturers and TAs.
201. generally, it's a very good thing to have if lecturers make use of it efficiently.
202. The IVLE is very useful, but some teachers do not use its potential enough. Also, lack of participation from students make the forum rather dry. Also, what is Mobile IVLE? Is it possible to have a mini-course (online or in person) to teach us on the possibilities of IVLE?
203. i think that the whole system is generally very good and efficient. i really use the ivle to view webcast lectures as well. it's a great idea.
204. No additional improvements
205. underutilised. perhaps some perks for logging on regularly?
207. Its an excellent systems that makes information easy for all, lecturers and students alike. It has reduced the hassle of making trips to photocopy room.
208. very good application software..
209. On the whole, IVLE provides an all purpose environment for NUS undergraduates. It not only provide academic resources, it can also serve as a means of communication with friends through the different tools. Keep up the good work!!
210. IVLE is brilliant!
211. I feel that under my community, the moderator of a group should be able to post announcements that would appear as pop-ups when its members log onto ivle. This would facilitate the communication between the members and the moderator.
212. A more thorough/efficient updating of the IVLE in relation to the modules a student could be taking outside of his own faculty. For instance, as a Bizad student minoring in Real Estate, I initially couldn't access the workbin for one of my Real Estate modules in the IVLE, and had to notify my lecturer to rectify the problem for me.
216. It's great to have IVLE... perhaps more lectures can be webcasted so that students can watch them in case we miss out anything during the lectures.
218. At times, in order for us to access the allocated modules online exam papers, we need to sign in once again - this can be quite a waste of time. Possibly arrangements can be made to facilitate this, so that we have direct access to these online papers straight by clicking the modules.
219. it's great. should be a one-stop for all my modules and it should contain all the relevant info regarding my modules. encourage lecturers to at least put general info (like pre-req and preclusions, assessment, dates of exams, etc) on the IVLE so that students won't be lost in the workload.
222. Your survey form question 5 do not allow me to give my true information about the tools used. In fact i didnt use all the tools stated. but i am force to rank it. i feel that this will affect the statistics of the survey.
223. improve connection for webcast lectures
224. Hopefully there'll be more links to course's website.
226. dislikes: some modules like Ma1505C doesn't even have a forum. does this really makes use of ivlE?
228. useful
229. All lectures should be webcast.
230. maybe a popup can appear whenever a file/lecture note(s) has been uploaded to the workbin so that we do not have to check the workbins one by one.
231. Notes of the lectures to be up on the IVLE in advance and not after the lessons completed.
232. Great system. I actually like the chat room function the best as it allows informal exchanges and spontaneous discussions amongst students and lecturers. Pity that most lecturers do not use this facility. The webcast lectures also allow students to recap on lectures (either forgotten or missed). I suggest that more modules have webcast lectures! (but not at the expense of normal 'live' lectures, because lecturers tend to make normal lectures more focused and streamlined in content)
233. IVLE is a good tool for inter communication, submission of assignments and access, printout of lecturer notes etc. I suggested further improvemnt can be done using the latest software systems.
234. the messaging betw friends within the ivle is very slow.
235. It is very useful and highly interactive means of communication between the lecturers and students..
236. It is a useful tools for both student and staff.
238. quite satisfied with the system..
239. maybe make it easier and faster to log in without compromising security
241. Webcast - cannot resize window Forum - cannot remain anoynomous modules - some lecturers create very generic ones so unable to get useful info from there. modules - some lecturer block access to non-registered students
242. Active Messaging seems rather useless. Can do away with it. But overall useful.
243. the whole background design should be changed to be less boring and "squarish" and more interesting as it's a place we access everyday and it's kinda sick looking at the page sometimes. There are some interesting and useful programmes such as my calender, etc but i think they are underutilized because of their non-prominence. try to be more balanced.
244. good enough
245. Excellent
246. Its not the system. Its the people who uses it.
247. It's a very good platform for one-stop academic access.
248. the e mail sent to notify on the new updates on ivle can be clearer. most of the time, i can only know the module that has new stuff but not what exactly is newly uploaded.
249. Really helpful in organizing my work.
250. IVLE is a good system, but it depends on how the teachers make use of it. All teachers ahould be encourage to make good use of it as it is a one stop acess to all our courses.
251. Most of the time there is error on the page
253. Good.
254. The loading time for assignments or lecture notes is too long and sometimes, it even occurred error.
255. Its very good for access to notes and other course-related matters.
258. More tutors should maker use of this facility such that we do not have to refer to other course websites which could confuse the students by giving too many ip addresses to go to.
259. more webcasts
265. I think IVLE can also be used as an announcement forum for the University. Hence instead of sending out several emails it can be in the form of another section called "important announcements from the University" Also I feel that the Gradebook feature should be used more frequently.
266. i can get my lecture notes accessibly.
267. o.k.good beginning
269. Maybe there should be some indicators on beside the appropriate sections (e.g. workbin, forum etc) to indicate the presence of newly uploaded documents/replies which have not been accessed before. This will definitely save time on the need to go through the workbin/forum of every single module.
270. It is very accessible and contains everything that I need for my modules.
271. Good system, though the occasional hiccups in teh server needs to be addressed.
272. it will be better if ALL of our notes are available in IVLE. some of the lecturer still does not put their notes in IVLE.
273. overall IVLE is very good... not much can be comment on. Hope all the NUS students will make full used of this system.
275. THE WEBCAM FEATURE SHOULD BE RE-INSTALLED. IT ENHANCES LEARNING BETTER. INCORPORATE/LINK IVLE WITH EMAIL ACCOUNT... EASIER MOBILITY.
276. Think the web cast lectures are a great help.
277. Since i'm a part-time student,i often skip classes due to my workschedule.IVLE helps me to keep in touch with my course. thanks for your service
278. A lot of time lecturer like to upload lecture note, tutorial tothe IVLE, it's good for us to read but they should also provide hardcopy to us. It is very unfair for student to pay such a high school fee and yet have to print the note themselve. IVLE is for us to learn and communicate with each other to speed up our learning curve. My personnal point of view, the student should not print our own note unless NUS is going to reduce the fee. - lecture note consists of many pages (more than hundreds) Please help us to cut down ours unnecessary cost. Thanks.
279. sometimes it is quite difficukt to find the pass year exam papers thro ivle at home... sometimes type in the module and cant find it...
280. I hope that all teachers can use the ivle for teaching and not try to set up their own websites. This is because some features like the forum is often missing in their websites. It is cumbersome for the students and inefficient for effective and quick learning.
281. there should be more webcast lectures available
282. No suggestions for improvements.
283. Good. The use of ivle has been pleasant. Keep up the good work!
284. I really like the IVLE system, because it enables me to gain access to tutorials, notes & research stuff on via the e-library etc. It's easy to use, convenient & immediate.
285. IVLE has made my learning easier in NUS as it actually acts as a tool for me to be in contact with the NUS community.
287. I would like to point out that there are students who are not familiar with IVLE system, such as exchange students and they are not provided enough information for them to use IVLE. And also it is absolutely needed to support better internet access for students who have difficulty to get internet at home.
288. Overall it has helped me to access my courses very easily and its fast.
293. I feel that students should have access to other courses as well to know more about the course to prepare them in their planning to choose the module in terms of workload and materials covered.
294. We(my classmates and myself) have never used the instant communication. Don't know how it could help the communication between the members of the assignment/project team.
295. HOpe that lecture notes uploaded will be prompt
296. i like the e reserves function best, i think it really saves us a whole lot of trouble from queueing and photocopying essential readings from the library...more lecturers should utilise this function.
297. some lecturers are not organised enough in using the IVLE resulting in much difficulties faced by students. Time spent just to "explore" the materials found in IVLE is very long due to this, thus wasting our time instead.
298. Chat room capability should be enhanced. I remembered going into the chat room for a supposed online chatting session to replace a lecture. After about 20+ people entered the chat room, the system just crashed. Webcast lectures screening should also cater to those with dialup modem. Probably another option can be made for students to view the lecture albeit with lesser video enhancements.
299. Make Sure all modules have a forum as i think it's crucial for all students...
300. it is already a good system . if it can introduce the system of giving out credits for those devoted user or give them priviledges in using the system , i think more people would like to contribute to the system and make it perfect.
301. It is really very useful. It makes communication a lot easier.
302. there are still bugs in IVLE. I have a subject called Enterprise Java which I have taken in the last semester which is still existing in the forum. Not taken out. In addition, some of the subjects taken during this semester have no forums at all ??? weird.
303. the ivle's active messaging is not really active. Messages can't be received immediately, they will only appear when you refresh the page. I think that it would be better if it could work like msn. The forum, too, could work better too if we could address questions to those we know who are online.
304. When we access the multimedia, the screen for showing film is too small. A bigger full screen would aid in better viewing.
305. improve the bandwith on webcasts
309. seems okay to me so far
310. Its user-friendly!
311. Webcasts should have better quality. Some modules like gek1517 does not have an ivle page.
313. good to have it.....quite convinient
314. good
315. It's efficient to utilise.
316. If there can be some how an integration of IVLE with various access points (SOC portal, etc) and make IVLE the main access point for various resouces, then redundacy (if any) and usage can be reduced and increased respectively. The current IVLE interface looks pretty dull and unattractive.
317. Maybe to enable link or view of e-mail from IVLE.
318. good system to keep us updated on our own modules
321. maybe have a site map where we know what is there that are in IVLE or that are linked to IVLE. Would help to navigate the users around more efficiently.
324. More consistency needed across all modules.
327. perhaps can have a section indicating exam dates for each module. This will help making ivle a one-stop info centre for students regarding their modules.
329. Make access to all taken modules available through another link and not just the current semester's modules.
330. It is good and easy to use, especially for us to download notes and etc. Good to have such a system.
331. It's user friendly and it's a one-stop access to all my courses.
332. there are some modules that require us to log into their website from the website link to dl lecture notes and tutorials. why can't they just put it into the workbin in the ivle website?
333. can refresh the messenger service automatically... now i have to refresh the thing myself manually... waste time and no one wants to use it... or maybe u can scrap the whole thing altogether since there's so many instant messengers ard aredi... speed up the whole process and program.
334. hope that the modules that are not taught by my lecturers this semester will not be displayed. They are of the same module codes as those that I am taking this semester but are not taught by the same lecturers.
335. The forum should be more user friendly...
336. should link directly to email...do not need to enter password and user ID all over again
338. Like IVLE because it is very functional and is rather user-friendly. However, i realised that the subscription service might fail at times throughout the semester. Would be great if you can fix that. Maybe it would also be better if you could allow students to arrange their modules so that they can see the modules that they want at the top and reduce the hassle of scrolling up and down. This also allows for more customisation.
340. i would like to see exam papers from over the years and not only for the most recent year
342. Easy to find related lecture resources....
343. Encourage use by all lecturers.........and the section for events happening is a real good idea and should be continued......information of all modules, times and course info should be available on ivle and care must be taken to see that this corresponds to the info available on the CORS website to avoid confusion esp. those concerning times and module info.
344. There is only one(1) main issue ie it is not user-friendly.
345. Be more faculty specific
347. IVLE is a great and important tool for undergrads/grads. This is especially so if the module's lecture is the only one for the day and there is a webcast for it. Highly important for students that need to travel far just to reach school. Also, good to download available readings instead of going to the library, queuing and wasting time. IVLE should try and make it compulsory that all modules be webcasted.
348. its a fantastic idea to have an IVLE. however, users should at least visit the webpage once in every two days. this includes lecturers as well
349. I really like this system...guess I don't know what live in NUS will be without it. It's so essential and certainly helps a lot in my learning.
350. Lecturers could make use of IVLE to put up test results instead of putting up the results on the notice board.
351. Incorporate NUSmail into IVLE?
352. There are some tools which I dont think are often used by the students like the instant messaging for example. In the event that you need to divert resources to other endeavours, I think that those in charge could remove some of this tools. Otherwise, I think IVLE is actually a very very good resource and I'm pleased that it exists.
353. The software is fine. The issue here is whether all lecturers can be convinced of its utility. A pattern that emerges is that the more senior lecturers and professors appear to shun its use - techno-phobic? The younger and new teaching staff take to it like duck to water which is very helpful to the new generations of NUS undergraduates. Perhaps NUS could fine-tune the "heartware" - encourage every lecturer to use the IVLE to convey their course contents. Features which I think are otiose are the chatroom and course assessments.
355. include a more comprehensive scheduler inside
356. I believe some of the features are more used than others.
357. useful tool, but if lecturers do not put it up then no point
358. it is useful to students
359. e-library should allow multiple downloads rather than once only. causes inconvenience esp when disconnected / have problems. also, it is useful to be able to see materials from other modules for interest etc, not just the modules taken in a particular semester. it is not fully utilizing the system with such an inflexible arrangement. traditional photocopying would not limit us from photocopying books/materials used by other modules, so why should the electronic system do so?
360. The lecturers should be educated on the use of IVLE. After that it should be made compulsory to use IVLE. Many of them are simply too lazy to use IVLE and so many times we are back to square one trying to navigate different websites for different modules. It's very disadvantageous for students using slower connection as they have to load up many redundant stuff often just to download lecture notes.
361. if the forum or ereserves are closed, there is no need to display them still.
362. I think there is a need to put up ALL modules that are being taught by lecturers in NUS, mainly for reference and to act as an information centre for future students, who wish to take up the particular modules. It ought to be updated regularly; and the lecturers must also play a part to ensure that all the information are updated regularly and that information such as course details be opened to ALL students. Thanks. But on the whole, I think the IVLE team had done a marvellous job in maintaining the website.
363. It should be neater.
364. Perhaps IVLE's usage could be further extend by providing an external network with partner universities for academic collaboration. Foreign participation if forum discussion or chatroom discussion can definitely enhance multicultural communication and boast learning efforts.
365. It is a well-organized system.
366. ivle is good. cos students have different timetable.
367. Tutorial registration should not be enabled on the IVLE. We already have the cors system to reguster for our tutorial classes and so the IVLE registering system will only confuse students.
368. The proper usage was not clearly defined. We are exploring blindly on this IVLE without much guidance and none vital information given. As a newcomer, some important links may just be overlooked and was not surf till friends informed. In addition, more useful infomations such as news, deparmental informations, etc can be posted in the IVLE. Also, there should be a chit chat room for more ppl to get together and chat.
371. make it more user friendly
372. course multimedia videos cannot be viewed from home with 256K speed.. as many videos required 512K or higher speed. That is causing inconveniences as the headphones in the CBLC nad PC clusters are not very clear and inaudible.
373. IVLE seems to be too generous to teachers. They simply put everything relevant on IVLE and its impossible to know what to read - and there is more than what is possible to read. Teachers should be more critical on what they put on IVLE. Its annoying that IVLE actually replaces books. Its so much nicer to read from a book and as long as the printing facilities on campus are as bad as they are, its not satisfying to have to print out everything...
375. More can be done to improve the digital library and Library e-Reserves. I find it difficult to find the journals that the lecturers wanted and most are not available online.
377. I think it is a very useful site for students to interact with each other outside their curriculum time and with the tutors and lecturers also.
378. I hope all lecturers will use IVLE consistently.
379. recently, the web layout is often change so that it make us not convenient to use. we have to learn and search again.
380. notice that after login ivle, i still have to type in the same username and password again to access school email account. is it possible that the email and ivle share the same login?
381. Overall, I feel that IVLE is a very useful tool. However, it still depends on how much the lecturer is willing to make use of IVLE. For example, in forum, if TA or the lecturer is willing to answer questions there, then the students will have an good channel to ask questions.
382. The system is quite slow at times, especially for the messaging.... it's also not user-friendly as i can only chat with 1 person and not with multiple pals.
383. The active messaging is too slow to faciliate online messaging.
384. more project collaboration tools; realtime online chat program like msn/icq; whiteboard application n file sharing capabilities
386. It's really useful, thanks. But it would be nice if professors do not expect us to print the lecture notes. It defeats the environmentally friendly angle to print everything out.
387. The system is working great now however there is always a slight lag with the friend list on knowing who is online and who is not. Sometimes that person is online but we cannot see if or if that person had gone offline, it still shows that the person is offline. Also the msg send also seems not inpromptu. Other than this, i think the whole ivle is great!
388. Mostly efficient.
389. Perhaps a function for customising the background, or the font can be added. THanks.
390. Good!
391. The system is very good.. and it should be made compulsory for all the lecturers to use IVLE for the distribution lecture notes. The chat room can be improved to look better and add more functionalities.
392. nil... encourage more to use IVLE>.. and also upgrade the friends messenging system... like ICQ or MSN.. it is slow and lagging
393. i think you need to polish up the interface - it's the same since the first release. a greate website to check out: http://www.templatemonster.com
394. A download tool (similar to norton live update) for notes (check for new files in workbin and update accordingly)
395. sometimes module codes are duplicated multiple times, leading to confusion. some lecturers still post lecture note etc. on websites of their own. so only the module come is listed in ivle-useless.
396. change the colour scheme periodically, its such a boring orange, just dulls the whole thing
397. So far I haven't had problems with IVLE. It's already very good.
399. maybe IVLE can enable file sharing among peers so that students can share notes among themselves and upload files for other students.
401. I have a major grouse and am very curious as to why the library e-reserves are closed so soon after the semester ends - right after exams, to be precise. Are students not given a grace or notice period by which to download copies for their own private and extended study? I did not have time to download essay/journal items for two of my courses (Nation-Building of Singapore/HY2249 and International Politics of Southeast Asia/PS3241) during the course due to severe time constraints as there were tons of assignments, presentations and other more 'essential' readings to complete. Imagine my horror and dismay when I ventured to the IVLE to do the necessary downloading and found out that the e-reserves section had expired so quickly upon the start of the semestral break, and no notice had been given (e.g. mass reminder to students' e-mail accounts)! The 'cyber' convenience of the IVLE has now become an INconvenience as I will have to manually 'hunt down' those particular titles in the library, provided I can get the titles since all access has now been denied. In all exasperation and honest curiousity, may I please have an answer as to why the library e-reserves on the IVLE are closed so soon and without notice, as well as suggestions as to how to handle my predicament. Thank you for your kind attention. A prompt response will be much appreciated. Sincerely, Sarah-anne Teo
402. I think all features are appropriate and useful.
404.
